Our selection of the best bits from around the web this month…
After landing on the cover of Time Magazine, the Pussy Hat has taken over the runway of Missoni Fall 2017 show last Saturday during Milan Fashion Week. For the finale, all the Missoni models came back on stage wearing pink pussy hats which featured the couture house signature zig-zagging stripes. Although the project was guaranteed to make the headlines and so bring a maximum of free advertising to the company, the political inclinations of Angela Missoni are undeniable, as some proceeds of the collection will be donated to the American Civil Liberties Union and the UN Refugee Agency.
Since the pattern was first released for the the Washington Women’s March of 21st January, millions of pink Pussy Hats have been knitted and crocheted across the globe, becoming a symbol of resistance and feminist solidarity. To discuss the success of the Pussy Hat Project and the future of craftivism, Anna Maltz will host a live panel discussion – Knitters in the Round: Pussy(C)hat – on Saturday 4th of March 2017 at 5pm. The discussion will be available via Pom Pom Quarterly website.
To finish, Ezgi Pamir is a Turksih illustrator, stage and costume designer who amongst her many talents, creates sumptuous embroidered portraits and illustrations with a level of details and use of colour that is absolutely incredible. Her copy of Vincent Gogh Self Portrait 1889 left us speechless.
Until Next Time… Happy Knitting!
