Malabrigo – Sock
Malabrigo Sock is a 100% merino 4 ply with a super soft and bouncy handle. It is misleadingly called Sock because of its weight however due to the absence of nylon we wouldn’t recommend using it for knitting socks. Instead make the most of its crisp stitch definition and distinctive colourways to knit up beautiful textured and lace shawls or a beautiful light weight garment. If you’re the kind of knitter who likes to bring a pop of colour to your outfit then you will love the vibrancy of the Malabrigo palette.
Malabrigo is a family owned company based in Uruguay specialising in the production of hand-dyed yarn. Not only do they dye the yarn but they also produce their own bases. Some of the fleece used comes from their own flock of Merino sheep who live near their headquarters in Montevideo. The rest is sourced from Uruguayan farms where sheep are allowed to graze free-range through the hills and are herded by ranchers.
Their superwash manufacturing process and their dyes comply to Oeko-Tex standards – a certification which regulates the use of chemicals within the textile industry. Water in their Uruguayan and Peruvian mills is heated via a flat-plate thermal heating system which is solar powered. In 2017 Malabrigo started using renewable wood pellets as their main source of energy.
