Visit YAK in Brighton

Nothing can replace the joy of feeling yarn in your hands. Sometimes giving yarn a good squeeze is the only way to know if it’s the right yarn for your project. And let’s face it, squishing yarn is what makes us knitters tick.

This is the number one reason why we opened YAK in the first place!

Our Brighton shop is full of beautiful colours, gorgeous blends and down right squishable yarn. Plus of course all the knitting and crochet tools, patterns and essentials you might need.

We have a wheelchair ramp that can be fitted to the front door. There is one step into the shop.

The main area of the shop is flat and wheelchair accessible. There are two rear areas of the shop which are accessible via one or two steps.

If you have any accessibility questions please give us an email or call and we will be happy to work with you and your needs.

How to find YAK

YAK is located in the heart of Brighton’s historic North Laine area, not to be confused with The Lanes which is another shopping area south of North Street.

North Laine is home to hundreds of independent shops, cafes and pubs. YAK is less than a 10 minute walk from Brighton train station and just a 15 minute walk to the sea.

We are down the quiet end of Gloucester Road next to two lovely pubs, The Eagle and The Basket Makers. The North Laine can get a bit confusing but once you have found Gloucester Road (not Gloucester Street, Place or Mews!) head east. You should be walking slightly downhill. Once you are out of the hubbub keep going, we are the last shop before the pubs.

By public transport

YAK is really accessible by public transport. Trains to and from London, Gatwick and all over the South East are very regular. You can get to London Victoria in less than an hour. There are 3 major bus stops less than 10 minutes away which will take you throughout the city and further afield.

Brighton train station is an 8-10 minute walk
Bus stops at Brighton station are an 8-10 minute walk.
Bus stops at St Peters church are a 4-6 minute walk.
Bus stops on North Street are a 8-10 minute walk.

By car

Parking in Brighton is notoriously busy and expensive. Our closest car park is Trafalgar Street car park which is located near to Brighton station.

The North Laine has a one way system and we would recommend working out where you will park before setting off.

I’m lost!

If you have any trouble finding us please give us a call on 01273 679 726 and we’ll try our best to help.

Classes at YAK

Learn something new

We host a whole selection of knitting and crochet classes at YAK for different levels of ability. All classes are held on weekends in the shop.

Knit Night

come and meet the YAK community

We host a social knit night every Wednesday from 5:30 pm – 8 pm. It is free to attend. We serve tea, coffee and biscuits. Bring your latest project, meet other knitters and crafters.

All abilities are welcome to join but please note this is a social event, not a class.
