Pom Pom Quarterly is born from the initiative of Meghan Fernandes and Lydia Gluck, who wished to create a magazine that would celebrate knitting, crochet and crafts in a contemporary and meaningful way. To do so they elaborated on a simple formula; a mix of beautiful patterns, stylish photo shoots, thoughtful articles and tutorials, combined with a consistent promotion of independent designers and yarn producers. With such a perfect recipe, it didn’t take long for Pom Pom to establish itself as one of the leading publications for knitters and crocheters across the world.
It’s been 5 years since the first issue of Pom Pom Quarterly was released, so to celebrate their 5th anniversary, the Pom Pom team – who never does anything half-heartedly – has lined-up a series of very exciting surprises for us all to enjoy!
First birthday treat on the list is the release of a bumper edition, Issue 21: Summer 2017, which includes a record 16 gorgeous patterns by some of our favourite knitwear designers; Veera Välimäki, Linda Dubec, Joji Locatelli, Kiyomi Burgin, Julia Farwell-Clay, Rachel Coopey, Bristol Ivy, Dianna Walla, Francesca Hughes, Juju Vail, Tincanknits, Thea Colman, Sachiko Burgin, Emily Foden, Fiona Alice and Anna Maltz.
Their very first edition, Issue 1: Autumn 2012 has also been revisited and re-published as a special anniversary edition providing new photos, one new pattern and more sizes for each of the 5 original patterns.
Both issue 1 and 21 are now available online and in store but for those who already have downloaded the Issue 1, the updated version should have magically made its way through onto your Ravelry library!
Of course Pom Pom 5th anniversary wouldn’t be the same without a good birthday bash. To celebrate in style, Pomfest will take place on Friday 14th and Saturday 15th of July at Studio Spaces. For the occasion 8 speakers have been invited to deliver talks. Most of them are designers, indie dyers, yarn producers or authors who’ve been collaborating with Pom Pom on various projects over the years and who’s input has helped shape the magazine as we know it today. Visitors will also have the opportunity to shop from the beautiful assortment of speciality yarns and knitting wares carefully selected by the Pom Pom squad. Cherry on the cake, on Friday evening, Lydia and Sophie will host a special live edition of Pomcast which will be followed later on by a DJ set.
To conclude we’d like to tip our hats to the wonderful Pom Pom team for the incredible work they’ve done those past 5 years, and for consistently keeping us inspired with their gorgeous knitted patterns. Happy birthday from all of us at YAK!
Until Next Time… Happy Knitting!
