Sandnes Garn – Alpakka

(1 customer review)

£5.99

Sandnes Garn Alpakka is a 100% alpaca DK yarn for any knitter or crocheter out there with sensitive skin. Alpaca is one of the softest fibres there out there and is generally better tolerated by people with skin conditions.  Please note that alpaca is also a little less elastic than wool and can stretch over time. To increase the durability of your fabric you might consider knitting at a slightly tighter gauge.  This yarn is the perfect combination of softness and drape which feels very luxurious. Amazingly it is machine washable on a gentle wool cycle up to 30 degrees and so very easy to care for.

Sandnes Garn is an icon of Norwegian knitwear which was first founded in 1888 in the industrial city of Sandnes. They are one of the oldest spinning mills in Norway. The alpacas this yarn comes from live in Peru 3000 meters above sea level where they feed on natural vegetation. The farming of alpacas doesn’t require the use of fertiliser.

I have bought this yarn in several colours to crochet scarves and shawls. It is wonderfully soft and easy to work with and can be worn by those who don’t like (or react to) the feel of wool. The colours look classy and I really see this as a top quality yarn which is reasonably priced.
