The traditions of the Yorkshire mills lives on through the wonderful yarn company Baa Ram Ewe. On the face of it their process seems pretty simple, but the outcome is really something special. With Dovestone DK They have taken 3 British breeds of sheep, spun them together in a way that highlights their best qualities, dyed them into a beautiful subtle palette inspired by Yorkshire and full of colour combinations just waiting to happen and there you have it, they have produced a gorgeous 100% British yarn which is helping keep British industries alive and well.
The Masham fleece is blended with Wensleydale and Blue Faced Leicester to create a bouncy, woolly yarn which is soft yet robust. Perfect for garment, accessories and home items alike. At the beginning of this year Baa Ram Ewe released a sweet collection of toys, Dovestone Smallholding.
Not much room for toys in your life, there are some stunning grown up things to tempt you too. Thien-Kieu Lam’s design Pianissimo was featured in Pom Pom Quarterly Autumn 2015 issue, and Carol Feller has designed a whole collection of jumpers, cardigans and accessories using Dovestone DK.
I am currently working on a joint project with one of YAK’s regular tutors, Suzanne. Suzanne designed a blanket pattern called Seaside Sundae and will be hosting a supported knit a long / workshop to make your own using Dovestone DK. All of the details of the class will be posted up next week but for now, here is our sample of which we’ve knitted half each. The yarn is a joy to work with and I can’t wait to see what colour combinations people decide on for theirs.
