This is it, I can hardly believe it myself but we have to face it, today is the 1st of September. Kids are back to school, tourists have returned to their hometowns, the festival season is slowly coming to an end; summer is tragically over. On the plus side, many designers have released their Autumn collections and Ravelry is now flooded with gorgeous patterns. Thick cosy jumpers, warm beanie hats, colourful scarves and dainty mittens, so many of those projects would allow you to complete your Autumn wardrobe tastefully and stylishly.
Thus for this August Pattern Round-Up we selected fours items that we thought stand out from the crowd. We hope you’ll like them as much as we do.
First on the list is this beautiful jumper by Isabell Kraemer. As it is worked from top to bottom, Cozy Afternoon is completely seamless. The lace yoke is worked separately and then joined to continue in the round. The top down construction also gives you the possibility to try it from time to time, make the appropriate adjustments and reach the perfect fit. Designed to be knit with a sport weight yarn, it would be warm although not too thick, perfect for the mid-season. Ulysse by De Rerum Natura is one of the team’s favourites and with so many gorgeous colours (including 9 new ones being released at the end of September!) to choose from, it would be a great yarn for this project.
My Cryptonite is a very original shawl by Melanie Berg, colourful and big enough to wrap yourself in multiple times. We love the fishnet inspired bright green lace contrasting with the discreet two tones striped motif. If you want to recreate a similar balance of colours, to mix Graphite, Crystal and Skinny Dip from the Skinny Singles – Hedgehog Fibres range would be a good shout. Obviously by keeping the striped motif in two shades of grey, you could choose pretty much any other colour to knit the lace with and it would still look great.
Anyone keen on My Cryptonite should take the time to look at Melanie’s work as her Ravelry page is full of gorgeous designs, with interesting texture and colours details that they would surely enjoy.
A bit of childrens wear now with Cowboy Sweater by Anna & Heidi Pickles. Funnel neck, contrasting stitches, this jumper is very simple in its construction but oh so cute. Now if you’d rather use something soft that can be worn next to his/her baby skin Knit by Numbers by John Arbon would be the right yarn for you. Made of 100% Merino wool, this yarn is very soft and will keep your little ones warm this autumn!
We now finish this pattern round up with these adorable mitts by Okanagan Knit Co. Here again we enjoy the simplicity of the design enhanced by a tree motif at the back of the hand created by a basic variation of knit and purl. I could imagine those mitts in so many colours; Frank Ochre, Sunset, Cirrus Gray, Piedras, Whales Road. The Malabrigo Rios range is full of vibrant shades that would work superbly with this project. Perfect if you want to bring a nice touch of colours into your basic winter outfits.
We hope you enjoyed this pattern round-up, and if you happen to knit any of those patterns, do not hesitate to send us some photos!
Until Next Time… Happy Knitting!
