Gazing out the window in mid summer sparks visions of sunshine and sandals, the reality of drizzly rain turns our thoughts to light cover ups for our very British summer. We have gathered  four patterns which are perfect for popping on for a little extra warmth.

Dani sushine, praline, pattern round up, july 2017, knitting

First in the Round Up is Praline by Dani Sunshine, a light shrug with beautiful scalloped details around the neck edge. The front of the shrug overlaps and is secured by buttons to create a very feminine and flattering shape. Praline is knit from the top down, starting with the patterned collar. The sample uses a DK weight yarn, though the gauge Dani recommends means both Hedgehog Fibres Merino DK and Malabrigo Rios would suit. Use a solid soft colour to create a simple elegant shrug and allowing the pretty collar detail to be the main attraction.

Next is the Prairie Cats Socks by Solene Le Roux, a pair of really fun Cat socks to warm up feet and hearts on a chilly summers day. These socks are knit toe-up with an after thought heel. The geometric Cats are knit using a stranded colour work pattern. Life in the Long Grass – Fine Sock would be perfect in its subtly heathered shades.
Amory, isabell kraemer, pattern round up

Thirdly we have Amory by Isabell Kraemer. A gorgeous light weight pullover. Amory is knit in lace weight yarn as light as a feather, creating an ideal light layer for a cooler summers day. Knitted from the top down in the round, the garment has contiguous set-in sleeves. As well as the lace border around the hem of the pullover. The garment uses a range of different shaping techniques and a lot of stocking stitch so is great for those seeking a new construction challenge. Walk Collection – Delicate Merino is a suitably light and bouncy substitute. There are colours ranging from soft neutrals through to punchy accents to knit you Armory in.

Frou frou tee, ekaterina filippova-blanchard, pattern round up

Finally we have Frou Frou Tee by Ekaterina Filippova-Blanchard. A delightful kids tee with lace holes and frills knit from the top down in the round. Blacker Yarns Lyonesse DK is a summery and light weight blend of Corriedale / Merino Wool and Linen and comes in a selection of pastel and natural colours inspired by precious stones.

Until next time… Happy knitting!
