Pattern Round Up – April 2017

Our monthly review of our favourites patterns from Ravelry – for this Round Up we looked into textured knits which always look so good in plain and semi-solid colours!

With its loose fit, eye let motif and 3/4 lenght dolman sleeves, Sparkle Up by Dieuwke van Mulligen would be a great jumper to wear over the spring and summer seasons. The lower body is knitted in the round, while the dolman sleeves, the upper front and upper back body are knitted flat before to be grafted together with a Kitchener stitch. A fingering yarn with a lot of drape, like the LITLG – Fine Sock, would work really well with this project. 

The Bare Bones socks by Ash Alberg combine a toe to cuff  construction and a textured stitch which covers most of the foot and the ankle. To highlight the textured sections, we would suggest you to choose a plain colour, or as in the example above, a semi solid shade with very light speckles. Any heavily variegated yarn would disrupt the motif. 

Vanguard is a beautiful top down, seamless cardigan  designed by Annamária Ötvös which features an all over pattern made of eyelet, cables, and various textured stitches. De Rerum Natura – Gilliatt would suit perfectly this project, especially if you wish to achieve a rustic traditional look. Otherwise the Malabrigo – Rios would also be a good match.

We love the simplicity of the Salt shawl designed by Sylvia McFadden. The motif results from the variation of stockinette and garter stitches in small triangular sections. Here again we would advise you to use the Malabrigo – Rios or the Fibre Co. – Cumbria, although as we said earlier, the use of a plain colour would put a greater emphasis on the triangular motif and so might be preferable over a variegated yarn.
