Cast on for christmas, ravelry, knitting patterns, pattern round up

We know, we know, it’s barely the end of October and we’re talking about Christmas already? Whilst it may seem a little soon for some, there is actually only 8 weeks until the big day is here. That means only 56 more days to knit up some festive gifts for your friends and family!

We’ve compiled together a selection of quick knits that would make perfect stocking fillers, Secret Santa’s and heart-warming presents to those closest to us – all of which are achievable before Christmas! After all, there is something incredibly special about hand made gifts for our loved ones.

Chunky knits make for great last minute cast ons as they knit up super fast, and The Winter Dreamer Hat by Kalurah Hudson is no exception! With a unique and striking ribbed cable pattern, this hat will for sure be a winner. The speckled detailing in Hamelton Tweed 2 would make a lovely choice!

Add just the right touch of Victoriana to your knitted gifts with this Twice Striped Shawl by Fatimah Hinds. Knit with a worsted weight such as De Rerum Natura Gilliatt, this shawl will be another quick project to go under the tree! Use Aubepine and Sel for some lovely festive colours.

Who can resist a pair of hand knitted socks? With these Scribbly Gum Socks by Helen Stewart you will be adored by the whole family! Inspired by the wonderful collaboration between the eucalyptus tree and the secretive Scribbly Moth, a fun twisted stitch pattern adorns the front of the leg .Choose a solid colour of Retrosaria Mondim to really let the detailing show.

Mittens are another great go-to gift, and these Marit mittens by Skeindeer Knits are relatively simple and quick to knit up. They use a floral traditional chart from the Selbu region of Norway – perfect for the colourwork enthusiast in your life! The deep tones of Retrosaria Brusca would be great for these mitts.

Crochet Creations

The Scrivener Shawl by Corin Purifoy is a graceful top down shawl dedicated to the creative’s out there. Whilst we would usually recommend staying away from large 4ply projects for quick knits, the Scrivener Shawl is crocheted on a 5mm so it flies of the hook! For a truly luxurious gift with gorgeous drape use The Uncommon Thread Posh Fingering – which has just been restocked!

Market bags have been on trend for a while now, and they make an excellent gift for those who love a beautiful reusable bag! The Sakura Market Bag by K.A.M.E. Crochet is a twist on the classic mesh design with a stunning textured bottom. Use the vibrant colours of MoYa DK Cotton for your version!

Children's Knits

Baby knits always make great gifts, and they knit up super fast too! Mima by Isabell Kraemer is an adorable top down cardigan with a cute textured lace panel and broken seed stitch pattern detailing. Kraemer suggests using CoopKnits SocksYeah! for this charming cardi.

Bands of archery-inspired colorwork wrap around the yoke of Fletching, a seamlessly knit, top-down sweater by Jessica McDonald. For ages 3 months to 12 years, this jumper will be a hit with the entire family! Use John Arbon’s Yarnadelic for a soft and bouncy knit.

Until Next Time… Happy Knitting!
