One of my oldest friends had a lovely little baby girl in January and I decided to challenge myself and crochet her a blanket.

The pattern is called Miami Memphis by Katie Jones. I have never crocheted anything so big before so this blanket was quite a challenge. It took me about 4 months of picking up and putting down. All the squares were pretty straight forward and I did on the whole enjoy it. All except the stripes. I love how they look but they absolutely did my head in! The problem with being more of a knitter is getting annoyed when I can’t get things perfect. Its much harder to achieve straight lines and my tension is still a bit all over the place. The joining wasn’t as tedious as I thought it would be so that was a plus!

I used De Rerum Natura’s Ulysse and picked out the colours back in the summer. I had some leftovers from previous projects so I’m not sure how much of each I used but I think less than a ball of each colour except fusain which used 2. The yarn suggested is a DK where as Ulysse is a sport weight so the overall blanket is smaller but it ended up around 80 cm x 80 cm so perfect for a baby blanket.

Naomi was suitably overjoyed by the surprise which made it worth all the hard work. Watching Ida’s eye go wide at the sensory overload was fab.⁣ I won’t be embarking on another one in a while! Sorry future babies you will be getting something a lot more simple.
