Soft & Variegated

A delicate single ply lace weight yarn made from 100% merino lambswool. This yarn is perfect for making beautifully fine shawls and garments. Use it by itself for the finest result or hold it with a strand of lace weight mohair to add texture and bulk to the fabric. Any item made with this exquisite yarn will unquestionably become an heirloom piece you’ll treasure forever.

Malabrigo is a Uruguayan company based in Montevido and specialised in the production of hand-dyed yarn. This family run business also produces their own bases and even got their own flock of merino sheep! The remaining of the fleece comes from Uruguayan farms run by ranchers and where sheep graze free-range through the hills.

The company has recently moved all their production to Peru but their headquarters remain in Montevido where they carry out product development.

Malabrigo strives to use as little chemicals as possible. Their dyeing process meets Oeko-Tex 1907/2006 CE standards – a certification which regulates the use of chemicals within the textile industry. Water in their Peruvian mills is heated via a flat-plate thermal heating system which is solar powered.

Make it Marled

Marled knitting – or marling – is achieved by knitting two different coloured yarns together. This result in a fabric with an unusable texture and beautiful variegations. Malabrigo Lace is perfect for that kind of project.
