A Classic Tweed

Soft Donegal is a fantastically soft worsted weight tweed made from 100% merino wool. It comes in a beautiful range of speckled colourways which are easy to combine together to create beautiful pieces of stranded knitting.

This yarn is woollen spun and so very lofty and warm. Perfect for those thick cardigans and jumpers that will keep you snug as a bug during the winter months.

Studio Donegal is based in Kilcar, a town located in the picturesque county of Donegal, Republic of Ireland. Kilcar has a long-standing tradition of hand-weaving and woollen textiles dating as far back as the late 1700’s.

In the early 1970s commercial hand-weaving completely ceased giving place to the more profitable power looms. In the late 1970’s Studio Donegal was founded to revive and to preserve the craft. Today Studio Donegal is one of the last remaining mills specialising in the production of hand-woven clothes, garments and yarns
